Introduction. The modern development of legal statehood is characterised by the intensification of law-making activity. At the same time, at the doctrinal level the issues of crisis of legality, contradictions, gaps in legislation, defects in departmental regulations, the need to provide all institutions of civil society with quality legislation are discussed. in legislation, defects in departmental normative acts, the need to provide all institutions of civil society with quality legislation. The article is devoted to the consideration of the legal category ‘legal technique’. Close attention is paid to the formation of the concept of legal technique, its essence at different historical stages of society development. Materials and Methods. The basis for solving the questions posed is the research of theoretical provisions that make it possible to evaluate the concept of legal technique, its qualitative expressions, to identify common and special features of the phenomenon under study, based on a combination of general scientific and private scientific methods of legal cognition, including the method of retrospection, comparative legal and formal legal methods. The Results of the Study. Conclusions are drawn about various approaches to understanding legal technique, which has undergone significant expansion and modernization; the peculiarities of understanding legal techniques at different historical stages, its essence and content are outlined; the interrelation of legal technique with the concepts of legislative technique and legal technology is considered. Findings and Conclusions. Despite a sufficiently large number of studies of this legal phenomenon, legal technique is considered a young concept, currently remains mobile, without a common understanding, which in the context of globalisation and digitalisation of law entails the need for scientific attention to clarify the boundaries of this legal phenomenon. The elaboration of the concept of legal technique will lead to the harmonisation of the normative array, as the degree of study of legal technique directly affects the normative regulation and the level of its development. Knowledge in the field of legal technique is the basis for quality work of a lawyer, and its ignoring leads to defects in normative legal acts: overload, difficulty for assimilation by non-specialists, contradictions, gaps and others
