The article analyses the current status of problems of illegal logging in Russia and foreign countries. A list of the basic reasons for the development of this problem is provided. This article deals the existing measures of combating illegal logging, illegal harvesting and trafficking of timber in the United States, Australia, the EU and at the federal and regional level of Russia, and also measures for the legislation improvement are proposed.
