Introduction: the article discusses the features of the methods of committing crimes under Art. 191.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which constitute an alternative list of unlawful actions, are key in determining all the circumstances of a crime and are in direct correlation with the personality of the criminal and the circumstances of the crime. Knowledge of how to commit a crime, as well as the environment in which it was committed, are important conditions in the formation of a complex of information about the crime and about the person who committed it. Materials and methods: the regulatory framework of the study is formed by the Constitution of the Russian Federation, criminal and criminal procedure legislation, local regulations governing relations in the forest sector. The methodological basis of the study was the general dialectical method of scientific cognition, which is universal in nature, as well as methods of logical deduction, induction, cognitive methods and methods of observation, comparison, analysis, synthesis and description. Results: allowed to clarify certain provisions relating to forensic characterization, disclose the content and practical significance of the methods of committing the investigated crime for the advancement of investigative versions and streamlining the investigation of crimes related to the acquisition, storage, transportation, processing for the purpose of marketing or marketing of illegally harvested wood. Conclusions and conclusions: characteristic features of the methods of committing a crime under Art. 191.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, consist of the specifics of the direct subject of criminal encroachment, crime instruments, as well as the place of commission. The method of committing the investigated crime is an alternative list of illegal actions, consisting of the acquisition, storage, transportation and processing, is key in determining all the circumstances of the crime and is in direct correlation with the personality of the offender and the crime environment.
