The article is a study of the formation and development of independent initiative and useful initiative of convicts in the form of self-regulated organizations, as well as their importance in organizing and conducting educational work with convicts. In particular, the useful experience of the functioning of the section of discipline and order in correctional institutions of the penal system is considered.
